Spruce Arcades Frequently Asked Questions

What games are available?
All SpruceArcade machines can play any arcade classic game (think games like Ms. Pacman, Galaga, NBA Jam, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc.), as well as any 1990s or 2000s consoles (Sega Genesis, PlayStation, NES). If it was playable in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s either in the arcade or on a console, then it's likely available on a Spruce Arcades machine. Check out our Games page for more details.

How many games are available?
We install approximately 3000 classic arcade games (while there are over 15,000 total, we remove mature, mahjong, casino, duplicate, and non-working games to ensure that you have the best experience possible). We install console games on demand simply because there are so many. Of the various console platforms, 10,000+ games are available (for example, PlayStation 1 had over 7000 games,  NES had over 1300,  SNES over 1700, Xbox over 1000, etc.). If there is a specific game you want, just ask!

Can you upgrade the controls on my existing arcade machine?
We sure can! We can do things like:

Can my arcade play games on other platforms like Steam?
Yes, it is possible to play games on platforms Steam, GOG, or Xbox Game Pass, however most modern games will require an upgraded mini PC to be playable. We can upgrade the standard mini PC to an ultra PC -- just let us know when you order!

Can I add new games after I receive my Spruce Arcades arcade machine?
Yes! In fact, we make it easy to add new games yourself, and every arcade machine comes with simple instructions for installing new games. We can also log in remotely (with your permission) and install games for you.

Can you fix my existing arcade machine?
Absolutely! We can repair most arcade machines. In some cases, we may need to install a new computer and/or controller board, but we'll review your specific situation and determine the most cost-effective solution.

Can you add new games to my own arcade machine?
Yes! This will require both replacing your motherboard/computer (the brains of the system) and installing a new arcade controller, but it can be done for far less than buying a brand-new machine!

How does the build process work?
The process includes a few steps.

What support do you offer?
We offer full technical support for 1 year after purchase, which includes software and hardware. For software issues, we provide lifetime remote support, which we can do even if you are not present (great for arcades in an Airbnb or business). For hardware issues, we come to you (note: for arcades delivered outside of our local service area, a travel fee may apply). All hardware is also warrantied for a period of 1 year.

What happens after my support runs out?
Remote support is always free. If you're past the year mark, we can still provide you with support for any hardware issues, just at an hourly rate. Contact us for details. Our mini PCs also run Windows and use standard hardware, so any tech shop will be able to help you with core software or hardware issues. We also have full backups of your original arcade machine installation, so should you need to replace the PC, the process is simple.

What arcade system do you use?
We use a combination of custom software and the LaunchBox/BigBox frontend, which is hands down the easiest to use system available. We only use the best emulators, and configure each one to run optimally for your arcade. Our arcade joystick/button emulators are the best available. All parts are sourced from true arcade vendors, and not cheap third-parties. Every system is completely upgradable from a software standpoint, and from time to time we will upgrade your system to ensure that it is performing at its best.

How does your system compare to Pandora, Batocera, etc.?
Pandora is a low-end system that is slow and hard to navigate. It is designed for cheap (and underpowered) hardware like Arcade1Up PCBs, etc. Our system is significantly more powerful, far easier to use, and infinitely more customizable. A full-size arcade machine should have a full-powered system, and that is what we provide.

Batocera is a great system, but is based on the Linux OS, and not as user-friendly for most customers. It also doesn't offer remote support capabilities. While we love Batocera for specialized builds (like dedicated TV consoles), for a full arcade cabinet, for most people it is a much better experience to have a full PC running Windows.

Of course, if you are a big fan of Batocera or another arcade system (e.g. MISTer) we can create a custom build just for you - just ask!
